Purple Haze
I fell asleep last night early and I *think* I actually slept through the night. I seem to remember waking up at one point but just sorta drowsily, likely because my body is so used to it. Hallelujah, everyone slept.
The Daughter came with me to pick my spot. She did Dhekasana (airplane), Trikonasana (triangle), Simhasana (Lion), a handstand and a backbend before heading out with The Nanny. Her big gymnastics recital is this weekend and she's totally pumped up for it. She can't wait to show off on the high beam... she's quite proud of herself that she's being allowed on the high beam at all and, of course, she can't wait for backbends.
Practice for me today was nice. Slow and methodical... I was only a bit distracted a couple times by someone in the room today...wasn't sure what the vibe was. Tim has left for Chicago so we were practicing without our teacher. Oftentimes I cheat a bit more when Tim isn't around but today I was just so happy to have my mind cleared... mostly... that I had a very nice practice -- not a lot of adjustments but a nice practice all the same. I felt like a real "part" of the Ashtanga Yoga Center today when I went over to help Kiran in Supta Vajrasana... people help me all the time but I've never been at a place where I could help others... I'm finally getting to that point. I had help getting into Dwi Pada before Supta Kurmasana today... I still have a problem getting back up with my feet crossed and over my shoulders.. I can get up with my feet crossed but I have to back out of the pose somewhat which means I can't lift up until I uncross my feet. I feel like I'm getting my feet crossed further back on my neck... though the tops of my feet were touching the ground in Supta... it's the lack of bandhas that keep me from getting back up I expect. Bandhas... ah... will I ever find them?
I'm sorta bummed that Tim is out of town because Lucia and I were going to go to the Sunday class so she could meet Tim... oh well, I guess it is just earlier to the tattoo shop instead :)
Today I'm going to try to figure out travel arrangements for my surgery. I have to purchase two plane tickets plus the hotel(s) for the week, probably a rental car for my mom for the few days we'll be up in Dobbs Ferry (Westchester, NY). Last night I sent my plastic surgeon the PDF files from AshtangaYoga.Info of the fundamental, first and second series. I figured this would help him figure out exactly what I do everyday and tell me where I'm going to have to hold back or back out entirely.
On This Day Comments
I love the On This Day feature... 3 years ago today... I couldn't do a headstand! WOW. I also apparently learned a new pose on this day but I didn't mention what it was. It's such a great reminder of where I've come from.
Last year I was toying with the idea of Ashtangi.NET -- look what a year can do! We've got some many bloggers (though OKRGR and JMS have held out and I consistently miss blog posts because I'm too lazy to surf ...still). I hope the ashtanga community continues to grow and grow because I love sharing this practice with people I don't know... and learning so much through the variety of bloggers we have.
